A Soldiers Story
I once was a man standing so proud
Doing good things and speaking aloud
The suit that I wore wasnt easily seen
It was given to me, different shades of Green.
Till one day I saw people with flowers
Laying them down on the bricks of two towers
The Governments argued and waved a big fist
They drew up their plans and a Terrorist List
So they sent me away to a far away land
With different beliefs and covered in sand
I still remember the things I have done
Keeping the peace with the sound of a gun
And now that I’m back, I hear what they say,
Dont be so stupid, get on with your day
The things that I saw down the barrel of a gun
Will always be there and never undone
So I did what they asked and began a new life
I couldnt understand why i beat on my wife
The last time I did I walked out the door
Drank so that I couldnt think anymore
Just as I threw myself in a sack
Friends came to catch me and gave my life back
My mind is at ease, my demons asleep
Its not a crime for a Soldier to Weep
I now know I am lucky to walk on this land
My best prize of all, my wife in my hand
